ROGER DALTREY AND THE TEENAGE CANCER TRUST

Roger Daltrey has joined forces with premium British sports car manufacturer, Lotus, to create a one-off Roger Daltrey Lotus Evora, which will be auctioned for Teenage Cancer Trust on Thursday 1 December.
This unique collaboration of two internationally respected and admired British icons aims to raise as much money as possible for young people with cancer in the UK.
The award-winning, high-performance sports car, personalised by Roger has been hand-built by a specialist team at Lotus Design and is expected raise over£80,000.
The car is sporty, sleek and sophisticated. Bespoke features include union jack details, red highlights and hand-painted graphics including Roger Daltrey’s authenticating signature. The inside features references to The Who and mod graphics, with embroidered roundels on the headrests and hand-trimmed union jack flags on seat backs.
Roger said, “It’s not every day you get asked to create a special car design for one of the legendary British car makers. As the car was going to be auctioned for Teenage Cancer Trust I decided to get some advice from a teenager. Toby, 18, the son of John Entwistle’s roadie, and myself came up with the ideas and here it is. The people at Lotus couldn’t have been more helpful. It’s great that they are waving the flag for British car design and Teenage Cancer Trust.”
“The music business as we know it today would never have existed without the support of teenagers. The money raised from this car and the show’s we have staged at the Royal Albert Hall for the past eleven years will be used to make a difference to the lives of teenagers with cancer. It’s my way of giving them something back.”

Bid for the car

The car is lot number 409 in the Bonhams December Sale of Important Collectors’ Motor Cars at Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey on Thursday 1 December. Phone, internet and absentee bidding available.

Roger Daltrey CBE, frontman of The Who, is a patron of Teenage Cancer Trust.
"Every year Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall raises essential funds to support the charity's work. I am incredibly proud of what we have already achieved and am inspired about what we will accomplish together.
March 2009 was the ninth year of Teenage Cancer Trust shows at the Royal Albert Hall, and each year it’s one of the most eagerly anticipated dates in the music calendar. You can always guarantee something special from the artists that come here to perform for the charity, and for you.
Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to be part of many very memorable moments in the shows history. I have many fond memories such as playing a surprise support set for Richard Ashcroft with Paul Weller, Kelly Jones, Liam and Noel Gallagher; or seeing Little Britain’s first live performance and the Kaiser Chiefs opening up for Franz Ferdinand before taking the music world by storm.
Within these memories of unique collaborations and musical firsts are the faces of the incredible young people I have met. Over the years I have met many young people with cancer and like Teenage Cancer Trust, I believe that they shouldn’t have to stop being teenagers just because they have this disease. They have helped me understand that they are young people first – cancer patients second and I am always struck by their enthusiasm, positivism and their lust for life."
