Alice’s Bucket List
Recently, I came across the most amazing, most inspiring, most incredible blog, Alice’s Bucket List.
Here’s how Alice describes herself:
I’m 16 and I have terminal cancer. I’ve created a bucket list because there are so many things I still want to do in my life … some are possible, some will remain a dream. My blog is to document this precious time with my family and friends, doing the things I want to do. You only have one life … live it!
Alice Pyne is an amazing British teenager from Ulverston, England who four years ago was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma that has since metastasized. She started her blog as a way to keep her family and friends apprised of her progress (much in the same way that I did). She thought that it would be “fun” to write (and complete!) a “bucket list” because, as she says, “I know that the cancer is gaining on me and it doesn’t look like I’m going to win this one.”
Don’t cry. Not yet. Because Alice sure isn’t crying. No. Far from it. In fact, she’s doing quite the opposite! As of August, she completed (most) everything on her bucket list. Oh and this is AFTER having been diagnosed with “terminal” cancer.
One of her biggest ongoing dreams (included on her bucket list) is that “everyone sign up to be a bone marrow donor.” It is through her Internet fame (her hashtag #alicebucketlist began trending worldwide on Twitter, her story has been covered on CNN, mentioned in the House of Commons and tweeted by Katy Perry) that Alice has managed to get 40,000 people to join the Bone Marrow Register. How’s THAT for a Silver Lining?
Durning this week filled with gratitude, please – please – please give yourself the gift of visiting with Alice. Be inspired. Be grateful. And most importantly, live your life!
