Kari Griesmann Artmann started discussion "CLL 6 months after stem cell transplant" in group Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma   at 10:58 pm, March 21st, 2013
My husband is 48 and has been battling CLL/SLL for almost 2 years. He was labeled chemo resistant after one year of chemo and had a double umbilical stem cell transplant 6 months ago. Just went in for his 6 month check with CT and bone marrow biopsy. Won't get all results for 5 more days. CT scan came back showing new enlarged lymph nodes and his IGG and IGM are through the roof. Anyone have any suggestions. I am freaking out. It has been a rough 2 years and know that secondary cancers are a huge risk factor. Our friend lost her battle with AML yesterday and this is really hitting me hard. - Reply to this post - View

hi - i have just been diagnosed with stage 2a esophageal cancer (type-adenocarcinoma) i have been told that since the small cancer in the lower part of my esophagus has not spread to the lymph nodes my best choice should be the surgical removal of most of my esophagus and some of my stomach . (this was what i was told monday 3/18 by a surgeon) I will see a cancer dr. on the 29th and get his opinion on my best options. I am 70 years old, have had prostate surgery (went pretty well but still suffer from some of the side effects - ED, slight incontinence) I have been reading some of the comments by people on this site who have the same [...] - Reply to this post - View

Susan, excuse me an important PS ! The 68GA scan will show something, but you may not know what necessarily. It will show tiny, tiny nodes of uncertain etiology. But very possibly, more tumors in your liver that were too small to be picked up on Oscan or MRI and if it lights up in an area known for Primary tumors, you could have enough verification to warrant a Laparoscopy or Exploratory surgery I spoke of in the previous email. If it shows lesions large enough to biopsy that could give you a diagnosis . A lot to consider ! As I write this I realize this would be the most important, exciting accomplishment of 68GA scans ! Would make a tremendous difference in patient's lives [...] - R eply to this post - View

Dr Kulke is also my Oncologist since 2003. I have tested other waters, but always "come home ". I think it is very important to educate yourself. Have you been to www.carcinoid.org ? Many hours of information there, many levels. For patients and professionals, you can read as much @ a time as you are comfortable and go back and reread. Many, many of us go back again and again. Caring for Carcinoid is another helpful site. I do not recall you saying when you were diagnosed, you may well already know of these sites and have already been to meetings. However, I feel I would like to suggest to keep an open mind and take time to absorb it all. The one major thing [...] - Reply to this post - View

Question I was diagnosed with Adenocacinoma last August 2012, stage IIIB. Non smoker. Had radiation and chemo for 7 wks. I had fluid in my lungs after radiation which tested positive. Had 3 more chemo treatments of Alimpta and Carboplatin, a CAT scan last week, more improvement but I still have some fluid. In the past 6 weeks I developed a cough and treated 2x for pneumonia which I did not have, based on CT scan. Question: I had a consult at DF and Doctor told me the cough was from radiation burn. My oncologist in my upstate hometown said none of his patients had had this side effect & he feels its from the fluid. Has anyone had this issue? Comments? Lholt - Reply to this post - View

Thank you very much for your insights. I have been driving myself crazy trying to decide what to do. My oncologist is Dr Kulke at Dana Farber, but he advised against the gallium 68 scan because he felt too many false positives....yet I think I would be able to get on my life if the gallium came back with nothing. I had one large NET in liver and numerous ct scans etc and no primary found. My primary doctor told me to just stop worrying because " no one ever dies from a NET". It's been a very frustrating year. I'm planning on going to the CCAN conference in NY in April so I hope to get more info. Dr Liu will be there along [...] - Reply to this post - View

Hi/ I my case is similar. Breast cancer spread to my spine. Zometa and Tamoxifin has kept it from spreading. Now I get a monthly shot of Lutrol?(not sure of the name, shuts down ovaries). It's been about 2 and a half years. I am treated at dana-farber and Faulkner. I get ct /pet every 6 mos. So far so good. I hope the same results for you. There are many options for treatment you have a bright future. - Reply to this post - View

My husband has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and the treatment is to be either the removal of the entire prostate, or cryogenic freezing of the entire organ. Does anyone know of ways to have intimate relations after his surgery, as he has been told that he will have permanent ED? - Reply to this post - View

I know how your feeling, its the not knowing what the future holds. Its very scarey. My husband has already completed the chemo/radiation, we had to hold off on the surgery due to an pnomonia which put him on oxygen and steroids. He is now scheduled for surgery on April 1st. It is a 6-8 hour surgery. Feel so helpless. - Reply to this post - View

Hi Jody, I'm at Roswell and have been really happy with the folks there. The stiffness is really annoying but at least it doesn't last too long. Here's hoping our scans allow us to continue with it. Cheers Ann - Reply to this post - View

http://listserv.acor.org/scripts/wa-ACOR.exe?INDEX Susan Above is a link to the ACOR online group for NETS and PNETs. It is a very active group. Many members are treated with Dr Woltering @ NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana) and see Dr D"Orsio in Iowa, Vinik in Va, etc. Many have been to Dr Liu @ Vanderbilt University for the 68GA Pet scan. He is running a study which is full but if you pay $4000.00 cash, you can have the scan. He is extremely popular on this site, I would be crucified for saying this, BUT you need to remember this is a study here in the USA. Nobody has a lot of experience reading them. They consider Dr Liu a Specialist on this site, but he has only been [...] - Reply to this post - View
