More chemo after pancreatitis??? Hi All, My mother has Stage 4 Small Intestine cancer with mets to the liver. She was diagnosed in October 2012 and has since had 4 rounds of FOLFOX, 4 rounds of FOLOFIRI w/Avastin and 2 rounds of FOLFIRI w/Cetuximab. She had a bout of acute pancreatitis starting Easter morning and spent two days in the hospital. She is home now, but not fully recovered. Her 3rd round of chemo was cancelled for this week. Since starting the FOLFIRI w/Cetux, she's been saying that she feels like her body is telling her that she doesn't need any more chemo and now, with the pancreatitis, she is gun shy about doing another round of chemo. They don't know what the cause of [...] - Reply to this post - View

Katie Goodfellow started discussion "Six Things To Do When You Learn You Have Cancer" in group One-to-One Volunteer Connect   at 11:29 am, April 3rd, 2013
Did you know that Dana-Farber has a blog called Insight? Insight covers the latest scientific advances and treatment options, practical tips for patients and families coping with cancer, and compelling patient stories. Insight can be found here: http://blog.dana-farber.org/insight/ A recent blog post written by Nancy Borstelmann, LICSW, MPH is titled "Six Things To Do When You Learn You Have Cancer." I'd encourage you to read the post and share your thoughts and comments here. Did you follow similar steps when you/your loved one was first diagnosed? Is there anything else that you would add to this list? - Reply to this post - View

Here is a current list of Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center resources. Feel free to reference this document when you're speaking with a patient or caregiver. Additional programs and services are listed under the "Resources" tab at the top of the CancerConnect message board. While all One-to-One volunteers receive a resource list during training, this document includes updated contact information as well as some newer programs and services. Those of you who have been involved in the One-to-One program for several years may find this list particularly helpful. - Reply to this post - View

Thank you so, much for your insight. I am in the acceptance part now, and thinking I will be glad to have it. We are hoping to take a short 4 day trip before the last chemo but it would be two weeks after the port insert, so I was a little nervous. I want to go somewhere warm to swim as I assume I will go from mastectomy (radical, with anxillary nodes -sp) to radiation 3-4 weeks later, all in the june through august timeframe, so my beloved swimming will be out this summer. If you had radiation after surgery, how much time did you need to heal after radiation (recon is delayed indefinitely, as surgery will remove skin), if you don't mind me [...] - Reply to this post - View
